4:15 - 5:15 PM:  Avoiding Nursing Home Poverty: How To Be a HERO To Your Clients & Their Families

Joy C. McNair, J.D., LL.M, CDP - Estate Planning and Elder Law Attorney, McNair Law Group, PLLC

The demand for Medicaid is rapidly growing. With an increase in longevity and the rising cost of long-term care, many seniors are experiencing hardship when it comes to paying for long-term care. In some cases, families end up losing everything to pay for long-term care expenses.  But, this doesn't have to be. This session will explore the riveting topics of Medicaid and how it can be used to supplement the cost of long-term care when long-term care insurance is not an option or has been exhausted. More importantly, we'll discuss how you can support your clients in avoiding nursing home poverty and become a hero to your clients and their families. This session will address: What clients' fear; Typical scenarios that can or should lead to your involvement (being the hero); The 'old' way of doing things and why it doesn't work; How Medicaid works; Pre-planning & crisis planning options; and How an Elder law attorney can support you.
