THE CURRENT STATE OF INSURANCE

Carrie Ousley, CIC, CISR - Hub International Personal Insurance

1 CFP, CPA, CIMA CE + 1 TDI CE

Back in 1752, Benjamin Franklin popularized the practice of Property Insurance to spread the risk of fire.  Personal Insurance has changed over the years. We will look at the cause and effect of those changes. We will review the National and local catastrophic losses and how they have affected and formed our Insurance today.  Other societal changes, such as Social Media, Distracted Drivers, Electric Vehicles, VRBOs and Uber or Lift are increasing personal liability exposures and risk. The insurance industry is responding in a variety of ways which include new insurance coverage to insure these exposures and rate changes.

Learning Objectives:

  • We will take a look at the carriers' restrictions and guidelines for property insurance, based upon the growing catastrophic losses (Wildfires, Tornados, Hail, Flooding and Hurricanes) over the past 5 years.
  • Societal Changes, such as Social Media, Distracted Drivers, Electric Vehicles, VRBOs and Uber/Lift are providing higher liability exposures and the need to have the right Liability Insurance Protection.

Carrie Ousley
is a 38 year veteran of the insurance industry. Carrie joined the Houston HUB International Personal Insurance Group in 2000, when the company was known as PLI Brokerage, a subsidiary of Chubb Insurance Company. For the past 19 years, Carrie has focused her career on personal risk management and underwriting principals for affluent individuals and families. She works closely with wealth advisors and risk managers by providing asset protection for their high net worth clients. She understands the complex needs of the affluent and has a National, Regional and local relationship with all of the High Net Worth Insurance Companies. Carrie is a native Houstonian and loves spending time in the great outdoors with her husband and two children.
